Inwood House believes in and values the potential and promise of all young people. We envision a time when every young person has the confidence, ability and optimism necessary to make active, responsible decisions about the future and whether to become a parent.
 
Mission Statement
 

A leader and innovator in teen pregnancy prevention, Inwood House is dedicated to helping young people become self reliant, healthy adults. We help teens take charge of their lives by:

  • Facilitating the development of the knowledge, skills, and self-esteem needed to set life goals, make responsible decisions, and avoid teenage pregnancy; and
  • Providing a continuum of care for pregnant and parenting teens in foster care that builds on their strengths and moves them toward self-sufficiency.
  • Being a source of hope, guidance and opportunity.
 
Values Statement
 
Inwood House helps adolescents from underserved communities recognize, develop and use their talents within the context of their families, their neighborhoods and the greater society. We are committed to developing young people’s leadership, decision-making and analytical skills, so that they can positively direct their lives and contribute to the lives of others.
 
We are guided by consistent philosophies, rules, policies, and procedures designed to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment in which teenagers can thrive. All Inwood House programs are designed to help teens clarify their values, achieve a sense of self-worth and make responsible choices.
 

We foster these goals through our:

  • School and community-based prevention programs
  • Maternity residential care for pregnant teens in foster care
  • Mother/baby foster care
  • Teen family support services
 
Inwood House believes that family extends beyond traditional definitions to include significant caring adults who commit to sharing their lives with young people. We strive to create a supportive community for our young people in concert with their biological and foster families, and mentors.
 
Inwood House promotes an atmosphere of trust, respect, equality, and shared values that enables everyone to work to his or her maximum potential. Our staff embraces diversity and is committed to fostering a dynamic environment where learning and teamwork produce continuous improvement of service.
 
We create program models based on rigorous research, data and a thorough understanding of best practices. Our research enhances our ability to meet the needs of those we serve and to influence the human service field in the practice and policy of youth development, public health, pregnancy and disease prevention, and social work.
